  1. Is there a step missing with regard to the anchos? Most recipes mention soaking and blending them, but this just said dump the torn dried strips into the mix. Thanks, looks amazing!

  2. No one will ever answer my question. I’m stuck here, alone, on a chili recipe website. Oh well, I can think of worse fates.

    1. Hi Ben , put your ancho chili after cleaning it out and removing the tail split it open and put it in an oven about 280 or ( a hot skillet) for just a few few minutes as soon as it gets soft that means the oil is coming out then you put it in the blender. don’t leave it on too long or it will get better and cannot be used. Good luck.

    2. Ben, I’m also here with you even though its been almost 6 years since your last reply but I really hope that you see this. To answer your question about the anchos all you gotta do is experiment with it until you find your answer. Also, to let you know that your chile ain’t all that so change your idea and go with something else like pizza or cookies. From Abraham.

  3. It says add next 8 ingredients then meat; the ingredients under tomato paste includes the beef, and even without the beef, there are more than 8 ingredients? Confused. Sandra

  4. Hey – numbskulls – the recipe is a guideline. Do a little experimenting and figure it out for yourself!

I followed along and made some of the best chili ever.

Just thought a little “2 year post process” was warranted.

  5. Ben – I apologize. Not sure why that step wasn’t included (my recipe here was copied from somewhere else — not my doing). Yes. Simmer the anchos in the beef stock for 5-7 minutes; let cool; then blend. Proceed with the recipe (adding tomato paste, etc.).
